Pentecostal vs Catholics

Catholic  Belief

Pentecostal Belief

Dominionism

Catholicism focuses on biblical law for its believers but does not embrace dominionism.

Domination in the nation’s political process is a mandate from God; 'biblical law' should be the foundation of American law.

Reproductive Rights

Bans all procured abortions without exception.

Against any form of abortion under any circumstances.

Equal Rights for Gays

Against civil unions or marriage in any form between members of same sex.

Gays can be taught not to be gay by accepting Jesus.

Resurrection of Christ

Jesus was already resurrected shortly after his death; there is no heavenly return or rapture but there is a ‘final judgment’ following which there is a Holy reformation of the Church.

Jesus will return to earth to save all true believers; the Jews will recognize Jesus on his return as the true Messiah and Savior.

In terms of the Catholic vote in the November election Palin’s religious beliefs fit rather well with the Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church. Her political views on major issues reflect the teachings of Pope XVI. In 2006, The Pope outlined a three point voting guide for practicing Catholics:

  1. Pro-Life
  2. Pro-Family
  3. School-Choice

The McCain-Palin Ticket offers a platform of Pro-Life, Pro-Family and School-Choice. But for the practicing Catholic voter there is one deal-breaker: both McCain and Palin quasi-support gay civil unions.

Much to the dismay of the Catholic voting populace, Palin’s failure to go that step further on gay unions is in direct opposition to the teachings of the Catholic Church.  It is certainly a major stumbling block for many Catholics who are mostly anti-abortion.

window.google_render_ad(); The Catholic Left does not like Sarah Palin. Even though they say they embrace compassion and fairness, the Catholic left is most upset over Palin’s unwed daughter’s pregnancy. But this could back fire for the left as blatant attacks on Palin make them rather hypocritical in the face of it.

McCain will have to deal with the John Hagee matter. Catholics want to know where McCain stands on the gregarious evangelical pastor who has accused the Catholic church of spreading a "theology of hate" towards Jews. (Hagee has since apologized)

Pentecostals find it difficult to accept the salvation value of the Catholic Church and of the sacraments; Catholics view the manifestations of divine interventions, the promises of healing, prophecies and spiritual gifts as forms of proselytism.

In 1972, The Catholic-Pentecostal international dialogue began. At that time,  Catholics were ignorant about Pentecostal spirituality and mission work. Most Pentecostals did not understand the rich spirituality and missionary works of Catholics. Catholics and Pentecostals were  wary of one another. The dialogue continues to this day as both faiths try to agree on certain tenets they share in common and to recognize the differences in a positive light.
